Lunenburg County Mesh is a community-built project focused on creating an always-on, off-grid mesh communications network across Bridgewater, Lunenburg, Mahone Bay, and surrounding areas.
The network is built using solar-powered backbone repeaters and is designed to operate without relying on cellular networks or the internet — including during power outages.
What This Project Is
This project is focused on building shared community infrastructure — not a chat app or short-term experiment.
The goal is a stable, long-term communications backbone that anyone in the area can connect into using companion devices.
What This Project Is Not
- ❌ Not a replacement for 911 or emergency services
- ❌ Not dependent on internet or cellular service
- ❌ Not a commercial or for-profit network
- ❌ Not something you need to be technical to understand
How the Network Works
The network is made up of solar-powered backbone repeaters installed at elevated locations. These repeaters relay messages between each other, forming a resilient mesh.
Personal companion devices connect into this backbone to send and receive messages. Messages automatically “hop” from repeater to repeater across the network.
