It’s been a great week for the project, and we wanted to share a quick update with everyone.
First — welcome!
We’ve added 16 new members this week (and counting) to our Facebook Group. It’s great to see the interest growing and more people getting curious about alternative, community-based communications.
Website is live 🌐
For anyone who doesn’t use Facebook (or prefers not to), we’ve officially launched the project website (you are here!). It contains the same core information as the group — guides, explanations, and downloads — without the social media side of things.
👉 Feel free to share the site with friends, neighbours, or community groups.
New map downloads added 🗺️
We’ve generated and added offline map downloads for every county and regional municipality in Nova Scotia, compatible with Meshcore (as well as Meshtastic ;).
These maps cover zoom levels 6–14, which provides a good balance between regional overview and local detail while keeping file sizes reasonable.
More details and downloads are available directly on the site.
A reminder about what this project is (and isn’t)
This project is not just for technical people. It’s a community-driven effort, and there are lots of ways to help:
- Sharing information with others
- Helping identify good locations for future repeater nodes
- Hosting equipment
- Assisting with planning, documentation, or outreach
- Simply learning and asking questions
You don’t need to be an expert — participation at any level helps.
Winter planning mode ❄️
With winter here, hands-on deployment will likely be slower for the next little while. That’s expected. This season is a great time for:
- Planning future repeater locations
- Thinking about coverage gaps
- Long-term infrastructure ideas
- Learning how the network works
Slow progress now helps things move faster when conditions improve.
As always, please share the group and the website with anyone who might be interested. The strength of this project comes from the community behind it.
Thanks for being part of it — more updates soon.
